We have all become pretty good at accepting those lofty goals and realizing that it will take some time and some work to achieve them. We understand there are processes and many steps to get to where we want to go. And since we are picking these big amazingly difficult goals, and they are usually things we want to do, we will be in there for the long haul. But what about when life hits us with stuff, big things. And you feel like the stuff you have to do is so big and so heavy and so cumbersome that it's impossible to get through! How in the world are you supposed to get through it? Exactly like you do with the other things, and exactly how you would "eat the elephant....one bit at a time!" We forget that any process, whether its ones we like to do or ones we are "forced" to do, seem gigantic at the beginning. But you shouldn't look at ALL the stuff that has to be done. You only need to look at the next step right in front of you. When you get that one done then you move to the next one, then see what the next step is then to move to the next one. And so on and so on and so on. This is the ONLY way you can do it. Not only is it just taking you through the roadmap of what you need to do, but it also keeps your head in a better place as you are doing it. It keeps you from being overwhelmed by EVERYTHING and allows you to function with just the single thing you need to do. Now if there is a time frame attached to your big elephant, then again the steps don't change, and the fact of taking one thing at a time doesn't change. Maybe you don't get the break in between steps, but all you need to think about is the step you are on right then. This smaller task will make you more efficient in your actions, will allow you to not feel so buried, and will give you moments of success as you move from step to step instead of the negative thinking about how you will never get to the end. Use this tactic in EVERY task you have, even in your workouts! You will hear me say "don't do the math" because if you find out you have to do 100 burpees over the bar and 20 heavy clean and jerk it will mess your brain up WAY more than if you know you have a handful of sets of 10 burpees and 2 CJs. Just take it one step at a time and you WILL get there:)
