"Don't pray for an easier life. Pray for the strength to be able to endure a difficult one." This quote came from Bruce Lee. It's hard to not wish for things to be easier. But if you are wishing for an easy life, then you aren't wishing for LIFE. Life is living and living has ups and downs. There WILL be bad times. But there WILL be good times too. Obviously, we all enjoy the good times because they feel good, they are comfortable, they are fun and they are joyous. But the thing that makes these times so great is the stark difference and feel of the bad times. When you are tired then rest feels amazing. When you are poor then some money feels great. When you are lonely, then some companionship feels like sunshine on your face. When you feel likey you are losing, then a win feels like you just won the Olympics! But to get to the good parts you have to be able to make it through the tough times. We have said in the gym that you want to train yourself to become comfortable with the uncomfortable. Of course, this isn't easy to do. And as in competition, those that have the ability to handle more discomfort will win, or make it further than those that can't. No one LIKES to be uncomfortable, but we MUST train ourself to be able to make it through this stuff. So how do we do it? First, we need to be able to accept and embrace the tough times. Don't shy away or run from them. Get after them head-on. Second, know that you will make it through. Nothing, neither good times or bad times, will last forever. There isn't a finish line to happiness or unhappiness. It's just a journey. There is always a pendulum swing so you need to be flexible enough to respond to each. Bad times are NOT the end. They are just a moment. So going back to Bruce Lee's quote, Life IS tough and there are some really hard and nasty things that can and will happen. And in between those tough times, there will be some of the most beautiful and amazing things and happy times you could ever imagine. It's up and down like that. That's life. Embrace all of it. The more you can take the bad then the less it will feel so bad, the less you will be affected or crushed by them, and the more you will be able to see all the smaller moments of happiness. And there is a ton of happiness to be seen. So wish and pray you are able to have the strength to endure those rough spots to see the lights on the other side:)
