It is possible to be happy when you have things falling all around you? It doesn't seem to make any sense honestly. You get in a fight/argument, you have financial stuff happening, you are late for work, you spill your coffee. How can you remotely be happy? "Happy" is a VERY subjective and vague term. Most will think that to be happy, EVERYTHING needs to be perfect. This isn't true and more importantly, nothing is EVER perfect. But even with all these not-good things, you can still be happy. The first thing is to be present in the current moment. There might be chaotic things happening all around, and maybe the next hour will be horrendous, but instead of wasting the current "nice" time worrying about what's coming up, you need to bask in the niceness of right now. The things you see, smell, hear, feel, and touch. Allow yourself to fully engage in all these right at the present moment. The next thing is to be truly grateful for the good things at that moment. Maybe its the first sip of your coffee (right before you spill it) and that sip is warm and creamy and amazing. Let yourself completely enjoy that. Or maybe you are picking your kid up from school, and you get that super happy and excited look from them the first time they see you. Let that joy fill your heart. Or if there is a song on the radio that flashes you back to a very fond memory. Enjoy watching that daydream in your mind. These are small things but they can fill you with happiness. Lastly, you can't control how other people are. Ever. So don't try. Don't get upset. Know that the things they say and do are out of your control. You can only control your words and actions. Stick to those! When these three things are used they can put a small protective bubble around you and your happiness. Happiness isn't an all or nothing thing. Happiness isn't about perfection. It can be a moment, a smell, a song. Put your energy into those things and leave the other stuff disconnected to your emotions. You will still have to deal with them but do them unemotionally. This way you aren't emotionally drained which will allow for more happiness. You are in total control of your happiness so control it:)
