Usually when someone tells me that they don't like competition because they aren't a very competitive person, they end up being the complete opposite. They are extremely competitive. And many people feel that competition is bad because it brings out the worse in them. I think it's because they see others doing anything in their power to win. They will lie, steal, and cheat to win. That is DEFINITELY out there. But you can't leave out all the beautiful things about competition. The way it pushes you to give than you would without it. The way it gives you the drive to prepare yourself more than you would if it was just yourself. The way you get the butterflies in your stomach and feel alive on the build-up to the competition and then right before the announcer says go! But competition doesn't have to be a big even thing. We actually compete each and every day. It might be competing with a co-worker, or even with yesterdays version of ourself. But it happens all the time. The object is to be able to embrace the idea of competition. Not be afraid of it. Many times, and probably more often than not, it's not the competition we are afraid of but how we will do in relation to everyone else and what everyone else will think if we don't win. This fear is what keeps us from trying. If we say that "we aren't even trying" then we can't lose anything. And this is where those that cheat and lie come in. They are SO fearful of what others will think that they will do anything in their power to be on the "winning" side. But this is the true cop-out. It's not the competition at all that's driving them. It's THEM! It's their fear. It's their insecurities. It's their false realities. And even if they win by doing this, did they better themselves in the process? Nope. And deep down inside they know they aren't proud of their progress or happy at the results and know they will just do it again because they don't have the capacity to see where they really are. So I say become the best YOU you can be by testing yourself all the time. Push yourself and see exactly where you are so you can make the correct improvements to get better. Push yourself and be stoked on what you have the capacity to do. Be proud of yourself! There is always ONLY one winner, so don't worry if it's not you today. You will have your day! Just keep pushing forward and improve you!!:)
