I have been playing with a mental exercise called "The Perfect Day". It's a business exercise that is supposed to help business owners succeed by figuring out what success actually looks like to them. The idea with this exercise, as in all goal setting, is to figure out where you need to get to be "happy". Since HAPPINESS is a VERY relative and vague term, you need to make it less a specific as possible so that it is achievable. When I started with the perfect day I struggled. It seemed impossible for me to get the PERFECT perfect day. I wanted time with my kids, I wanted financial freedom, I wanted the business to run smooth, I didn't want to have to worry about this bill or that bill, I wanted to go on vacation, I wanted to drive a nice car, etc etc. Its like I had to come up with the perfect week to get it all in. Well if I couldn't have a perfect day, then there's no way I can do a week, or a year, etc. But if you were to ask a kid what their perfect day would be, they would come up with a day that makes them happy. I have taken my youngest daughter to the beach and we played in the sand and the water and we got shaved ice after, then she crashed out on the way home. She told me later it was a perfect day. And she was right! It was perfect. It was perfect because she was happy. Being happy is what made it perfect. But its also possible to be happy from other days as well. Could you be totally happy if it was raining, or if you were on a ski trip, or if you were competing at an event? The answer is yes. Happiness is a mindset that comes from gratefulness and mindfulness. It's about being truly thankful for the amazing things you have and experience, and being completely mindful and present with those things. Happiness can make ANY day a perfect day. But finding happiness and being able to be happy takes work. It takes daily work, but it's worth it! If you aren't doing it yet, you should start either writing a gratitude journal or get a friend that you can hold you accountable to writing down/texting the things you are grateful for each day. They can be big-ticket items, or they can be as simple as a sunset, that is if you are truly grateful for it. Practice it for a month and see how you feel. Would your world be amazing if you were happy all the time? Well, this is how yo get there:)
