Our gym is a nice place to fail. Sounds kind of weird huh? But it's true! Every day you come in, you are presented with a workout, some movements, and some weights that, by the time you are finished, is leveling you on the ground. It's very common to have the floor of the gym looking like a war zone immediately after a workout. But what am I talking about when I say its a nice place to fail? I mean it's safe! Free from all the stigmas that failing means in the real world. You will attempt to lift some weights and miss them, you will attempt muscle ups and not make it happen, you will attempt to go fast and bury yourself, you will attempt double unders and miss on every 5 reps, etc. These are all "fails" because they weren't successful BUT this is the BEST place to do this. In the gym, no one is judging you on whether or not you did or didn't do a particular weight on a lift. If you made it, people are stoked for you because you got it. If you missed it, people are stoked for you because you went for it. People don't care if you had the best score or not in the class, whether you were RX or not, whether you have the newest CrossFit shoes, etc. I say it's the best place to fail because there aren't any repercussions. Nothing bad happens. You fail a lift, you just pick it back up again, etc! In fact the more times you fail, the closer you get to "making" it the next time you try. And in the real world, so many people are AFRAID to try things because they are afraid they won't make it. So they just don't and never get the opportunity to succeed! Because you "try, try again" here, you LEARN not to be afraid of failing. You get used to the idea that to achieve this will take MANY attempts before it happens, and that's ok! You unlearn the fear right out of you! And this skill will transfer out into you real world where you aren't afraid to try things, to give it your all without the fear of having to do it multiple time, and with the understanding that to get anything it takes time, work and commitment.....and many fails along the way. Nobody likes to fail, but if you take away all the negative points about it and see it as learning, then you move so much faster through it because your concentration is on doing. And this gets things done!!!:)
