Guilt is a feeling of having done wrong or failed an obligation. It can be so consuming to think about what it could have been like/should have been like/wish it is was like, etc. But these are just daydreams that honestly waste time. If there was a success or a mistake that was made, then accept it and move forward. This doesn't mean to blow it off or blame it on something or someone else. It means acknowledge it, and all the pieces of it. The good, the bad, and the ugly. If you need to apologize to someone then do it. If you need to apologize to yourself, then do it. But once you do all that, then it's about moving forward. I'm a people pleaser so I'm one that feels guilt pretty heavily. I hate to let people down. It sounds like a great trait but the reality is that if you stumble at all then you feel so terrible that it can literally paralyze you. I can get totally stuck in places and not allow myself to move forward. I know this and it's easy to tell myself to let it go and move but its always easy said than done, especially if you feel like you let someone, or yourself, down. But the best action here is to quickly move forward and not waste time wallowing in the woulda/coulda/shoulda that will be swirling in your head. Get out of that! It's not positive, it's not healing, and it's not a good use of your time. Take whatever it was that you learned from the incident, both positive and negative, and apply it right away to your new set of actions. You can either make a change and make the correction or you can be set up much better for the next attempt. But you have to keep moving forward. Progress is forward and progress is always good:)
