One of the things I noticed while I was working the Rogue Invitational is how seemingly important momentum is for an athlete and their success. When there are so many great athletes on the floor with you, it's tough to BELIEVE that you are supposed to beat each and every one of them. There is always that little voice that will needle into your brain about how this person is better or you need to do well in this one, or even repeated thoughts of don't trip up! Momentum can carry people through to do much more than they thought they could and this same momentum can be on the negative side and make people think that they can't get it together or get out of a slump. But it really does have the power, either way, to push us because we give it that power. If we think we have three good things happen in a row then we think we have a winning streak. If we have three bad things happen, then we think we are in a slump. The reality is that these THINGS are just that......three individual things. Sure they might be connected by injury or by money but you shouldn't stack them on top of each other and have that force you one way or the other. When you do that, you give the outside world more control of you than you have of yourself. There are both good and bad things that happen everywhere and all the time. It doesn't matter about your location or your current life. They just happen. If you are having good things happen, awesome! Ride that high! Don't be afraid of more good things not happening. Just take each, one at a time. If you don't like where your world is right now and bad things or failures keep happening, then change it, one step at a time. You aren't digging yourself out of a hole. You are doing your things, one task at a time. Life really is a series of events. Don't connect them so tightly. Every time you step up to the plate it will be a new pitch. You have a brand new chance to hit it! Every SINGLE time!:)
