It's the same thing every day. You wake up, you have your shower and tooth brushing routine, you make your coffee the exact same way, you leave for work or school at the exact same time, etc, etc, etc. You are literally running on auto-pilot. It's our routine. We are creatures of habit and our tendency is to move ourselves to these routines, which hopefully we picked them because they are working for us, as quickly as we can. This way we feel like we are doing the right things in the most efficient way. The problem is that even though we want these routines, after a while they make us feel like we are stuck. Like we aren't going anywhere. Like its Ground Hogs Day every day. But it doesn't have to be that way. We fall into the "rut" because our minds go into auto-mode. So we literally are just aimlessly moving through the better parts of our day. We can change this. You just have to open your eyes and look around. If the morning feels like a rut to you, then when you go to sip that first sip of your coffee, just look out the window at the weather. See the sunrise or the floating clouds or the red and pink of the sunrise and just enjoy it. Even if its for 30 seconds. Just breathe it in for a moment. You already drink your coffee in the morning so now you add a little scenery to it. If you're at work and doing the same stuff every day, put on some music, maybe something from back in the day to jog some cool memories. Or bring a couple of new pictures to put up around you and so it jiggles your brain just a touch when you look at those. If its nighttime, do a gratitude journal or have a gratitude partner that every night you will think of three good things that you are grateful for or that happened that day and send it to the other person. Sure this is a routine also, but it makes you think about the day and you go to sleep after examining at least three good things that made you happy that day. Our lives can get very routine and even boring but we can change the perspective and the look with a few easy things and make it something enjoyable again. Now excuse me as I get back to normal routine....coffee time!:)
