We are what we do. Now I'll stay out of the philosophical realm with this one but I can very easily keep it in the movement mechanics realm. What is the most important thing for you when you come in to work out? I'm sure its probably that you want to make sure you get a good sweat, that you are working your muscles and your cardio to stay healthy or lose some weight or to look better naked. All are important things. As a coach, our job is to deliver these fun workouts to you, but more importantly, is to make sure you are moving correctly. Not because it makes us look like we know what we are talking about. But rather, because we do not want you to get hurt. The big picture is that if you get hurt, then you won't be able to come in, and you won't be able to get your sweat on, you won't be able to work your cardio and it will definitely impact your losing weight, etc. So the movement is important. I think for the majority, most of you try very hard to move correctly during the progression segments and even in the workout as long as you aren't completely wod-drunk. But what about the warm up? What about those silly squats and push-ups at the beginning. It's just to get moving right? Wrong. Yes, its to get your body moving but it gives you time to actually examine your movement, without being tired. It allows you to think about perfect form under basically no weight. The importance of this is to start your workout with perfect movement patterns which will cue your body closer to that as your default movement. Then if you do get tired, you slide to default movement rather than old bad movements. This means you need each rep to be perfect, as perfect as it can be while you are here. The more perfect movements, the more the movement pattern will be usually perfect. The issue now becomes the other 23 hours of the day. When you are at home, work, or at play, you STILL need to think about how you squat, how you pick things up, and how you get off the ground. If you have moved badly for years then there are MANY reps to make up to tilt the scale in the opposite direction. You need to take EVERY opportunity to get good reps. This will make you better when you workout, but more importantly, it will keep you safe and injury-free so that you can be badass for longer. I think that's why we are all here! :)
