It always amazes me how someone can love a type of training so much, to where that's all they talk about, then the second they get hurt, they stop coming in. Now I realize that one of the joys of our training is that you can come in and go nuts for 15 minutes in a workout, smash yourself and walk out feeling like nothing else will be able to touch you the rest of the day. But then what happens when your knees start to act up, or your shoulder, or your big toe is hurt?? I mean you can't go all out anymore because this lame body piece is ruining your fun!! Let me tell you this, our training is NOT an all or nothing thing. If we were then what is written on the board becomes more important than the actual goal: to THRIVE by improving your overall health and fitness. Sure the board has the written prescription for the day but it's the "general" written prescription and is only 1 small blip of data for your overall fitness. Each member will come in and the workout will be "adjusted" so that they get what they are supposed to out of the training. We talked yesterday about scaling and how it's adjusting the workout to your level and ability. When you are injured we will do the same thing but for a different reason. We want you to heal. And to do that we need to try to "cool down" those pieces that are hurting. If you are sore, we will try to keep you in the same movement pattern but lighter. If you are injured then we will adjust the movement so that you are able to let that piece rest by not using it, and we change the movement or limiting the use of it. But this doesn't mean the entire workout is a yoga session. Do the new modifications as you are instructed but then push the other movements as you normally would. For the injured part movements, you move with purpose rather than with explosiveness. And as you are rehabbing that piece, you may be moving only a PVC pipe but in the correct movement pattern so that it heals correctly for correct movements. We are here to make it work for you! So don't throw it all away and "just go run". Injury is all part of training but not a reason to stop! Don't lose all that fire you had from before the injury and turn yourself into your "pre-CrossFit" self. Continue your BADASSERY and keep coming in. Remember, it's not about what's written on the board. It's about what you do with the workout you are given and reaping the benefits from the workout to build your fitness!:)
