Consistency is the maker of all great things. It doesn't matter what area in life we are discussing. It might be diet, strength, a gymnastic skill, a relationship, rebuilding a car, everything. The way consistency works is that IT, whatever it is you are wanting to do, happens all the time. Not just at the beginning of the new year as a New Year's resolution. Not as a month before some big competition. Not for three weeks then stopping. If you want to be able to do something, no matter what it is, you MUST do it consistently. This might mean every day, or it might mean that you keep to a particular schedule throughout the week. But the pattern of doing it doesn't stop. Usually what stops people is that they feel that the time it takes to do IT is getting in the way of their other stuff. Or life happened and they "just didn't have time". Believe me, I have felt these ideas many times myself but if you look at the greatest example of how consistency works then you will see the importance. Water doesn't seem like a very powerful thing. But when it moves, it moves has the ability to cut through any surface in front of it. A small drop of water that doesn't stop can make a hole in a rock. A stream of running water can cut through mountains. Think of the Grand Canyon. In these situations, the water NEVER stopped and because that, it was able to do amazing things. We can do the same thing. Consistency doesn't mean that you forego everything for this one endeavor and it is not about blowing it all out on the first try, or being all fired up for 2 weeks then stopping, or even for a month. It's about doing something each and every day. It's being that drip of water that constantly smacks that rock. It's about being that little stream that runs over that ground every second of the day. In the gym, its about taking a moment everyday to really concentrate on your movement of the basic skills during the warm-up, or taking 5-10 minutes to do your mobility before class starts, or staying after and working on your pull-ups or bar muscle-ups, or about reading your book, or about posting on social media for the business you created. Whatever it is, be the drop of water and break through whatever you want to accomplish:)
