How do you feel when you have big things, or a lot of things, looming in the future? It's tough because if its "life" things, then you need to make sure you are preparing for those things. But many times just the thinking about them can literally stop you in your tracks. Think about it, when you know you have a ton of stuff coming up, the internal questioning might be something like, "how the hell am I supposed to do all that?! There's no way I can do that! Then what will happen!?" These same types of questions happen during your workouts as well. I can literally see where peoples thoughts are by watching them. Let's say there is a big long chipper or its a big 10 round workout. The moment the athlete starts to look ahead at what is coming up, their eyes move up and they stop and think......and they literally STOP and think. All action ceases. But this isn't going to help you. This is wasted energy and no forward movement. The object is to stay focused on what you are doing at the moment. Keep your energy and your focus on the NOW so that you will be able to handle the stuff as it comes up. This doesn't mean to not be smart about what you have coming up or to blow it off. For instance, if you have a 30 min workout of heavy thrusters, burpees and pull ups, dont empty the tank in minute five. Be able to move fast enough to get through minute five so that you can get through minute 30. But also don't stop to count how many reps you still have to do or how many you have coming up because all that will do is make it feel like an impossible task. You will get through it. But you need to do it 1 rep at a time. Keep your focus on being smart with your current reps (or whatever other tasks) so that you can handle the upcoming ones as you get to them. Save your energy for action rather than worry. You can practice this in the gym. The next workout you have, try not to think about how many total reps you will have to do, or how many more rounds you have, or even look at the clock. All those things stop you rather than move you. They add anxiety rather than help fuel you. Put your blinders on and stay right in your moment. You will get to and through the other stuff, but its one step at a time! :)
