It's amazing how important breathing is to your well-being. Well, DUH Bill!! I mean if you don't breath, you die. This is true. But I'm not talking about the fact that you HAVE to breath. I'm talking about using your breathing to make you better. Your breath is intimately connected to your nervous system. When you get in a Fight or Flight situation, your breathing becomes very shallow and quick. Think about when you about to get in a fight! But this same response happens when we are filled with stressed or get pissed off at things and people around us. The problem is we live in a society where this stress is seen as a badge of honor. It's not. It does damage to us. The only way to fix this is to be able to stimulate your Para-sympathetic nervous system. This is by "belly breathing". This is slow deep breathing through your nose and out your mouth. You will see your belly rise as you do this. This instantly drops the stress in your body and your body has a positive response to this by lowering your blood pressure. When your body has lower blood pressure, you are able to heal yourself much quicker, but you also are in a much more easy mindset since your body isn't working so hard. Now I'm not a Hippie-Dippie kinda guy at all. But I'll say this, my world is FILLED with stress and stressful situations. Way more than I have dealt with ever before in my life. But using breathing techniques to lower my stress has done seriously amazing things for me. The stress doesn't even remotely affect me the way it used to when I was younger and all fired up all the time. I'm telling you if you aren't doing some sort of breathing technique, meditation, quiet time, quiet visualization, wave frequency therapy, or something to lower your sympathetic response and stimulate your parasympathetic response, you are literally crushing yourself from the inside out. Find some quiet time and make it happen. Even if it's in the bathroom. Give yourself 10 minutes to reset your head and your body. Then you can get back after it!:)
