Our bodies were designed to move. There are joints, swivels, muscles, and springs that allow our body to move and jump and run. When we think about moving, it's our workout. That 1 or 2-3 hours of the day of movement. Maybe we are training for an event or we are in the middle of a challenge to lose some weight, or we are trying to change some medical issues. And as much as I'm not a fan of "at least you're doing something" weak-sauce workouts, there will be times where one of these is so much more of a BIG workout than it normally would be. I own my gym. I'm there all the time. I am a coach and an athlete. I'm a single dad. I'm in the middle of moving. I have other transitional life things happening, and it's all happening at the same time. Sure priorities for training will change, as they should. But I have been finding myself at the end of the day just needing to completely veg out. I feel like I'm going to fall asleep in the middle of the day. I feel like I need coffee all the time. I'm busy doing the high priority things and pushed the other things to the bottom. One of those pushed things was working out. Yep, I haven't worked out in over two weeks. It was easy to justify it because there have been time constraints on certain activities. But it was more than a couple of days. It turned to a couple of weeks. BAD. In a conversation with one of our coaches, who is one of my employees, and someone I coach, she told me she totally understood my situation but that I should make myself do a workout. Something that doesn't take set-up or warm-up, but I could just jump in so that I MAKE MY BODY MOVE. I finally did it. Last night. Late. The voices were telling me no. But I forced myself to do it. I made my self move for 20 minutes. There weren't any expectations on it other than "get your ass up and just do it". Let's just say that not only did my body feel better to move, but my brain felt better. You can't underestimate how important it is to MAKE your body move. It doesn't matter what is going on, you NEED to move. So if you are on your normal training then keep it up. But if you get stuck in that rut and can't get out, just make yourself do it.
