Has anyone ever said to you that you do this or that because you would win it, or you'd be awesome at it? Its great that someone sees how good you are but for yourself, would you pick to do something just because its easy for you? Its always nice to win but there is something about picking something because its a challenge. Its hard. It scares other people. Think about the SEAL Teams. There are a ton of people that want to be a SEAL. And i believe that most of the time they look past all the things they have to do once they are actually a Team Member (missions, etc). Most look just at the training. It's super hard and amazing athletes get washed out on a regular basis there. But people still want to test themselves. And even if they don't make it, they will hold on to the fact that they "almost" made it. Why? Because MOST weren't even that close. It's a badge of honor! Sure it's scary to pick something that you might fail in because no one wants to fail. But when you attack something that is "out of reach" then the expectation of "I should get this easy" isn't there to gum you up. The pressure isn't there on you. It's basically a WIN-WIN situation. If you don't make it, well you weren't supposed to anyway. Nothing lost. But if you do, then you then its the most awesome thing! I was talking to some members of the gym yesterday about how when they go to other gyms, the programming looks easy. And when people come to us, they are shocked at what we do. We set the bar high on purpose. Now, when you come to the gym and see the workout, I can put the most incredibly heinous stuff on it and you guys would be like "well ok let's do this!" You don't even second guess it anymore. You accept the difficult tasks and usually with a smile and a giggle. This is how you should attack all difficult things. Know that you will be ok. Know that you don't need to be afraid of anything, and mostly not afraid of failure. Just look it square in the face and say.......let's do this! Today you get to pick your poison. It's either an EMOM or an AMRAP. But the point is to pick a heavy and hard weight. If you can do more than 3 reps UB at a time, then it's too light. Take the challenge today. Make it hard and smile at it! Have some fun!!! :)
