I'm sure you have heard the phrase, "you get out of it what you put into it." Its usually said when the leader of a group wants you to be involved in a lame class or activity. And as cheesy as it is to hear at times, I think its a pretty great statement. But I like that it really applies to EVERYTHING you do. Let's take working out. If you want to get stronger, improve your flexibility and mobility, increase your cardio and decrease your recovery time, then you NEED to put the time into your workouts. Now you will hear me say OFTEN, that more is better, better is better. So, in this case, I'm not saying to do more workouts when you put the time in. It's about working on your movement. Become as efficient as possible with drills and accessory movements. Work on your mobility daily, and even a couple times a day. Focus on keeping your head in the game and not getting into discussions with your brain about how bad the workout is during the workout. Keep moving. Don't let yourself cheat your movements, range of motion or reps. Get the FULL response of the workout. If you do these things, then you WILL get more out of your workout. If it's nutrition that you are working on then again, put the time and the energy into understanding what it is you are doing. Whether its macros or keto or paleo, understand what it is, how its supposed to work and then give it a VALID attempt so you can see the effects. It takes time and needs patience to really see how the effects are working or if you need to make some adjustments. If it's about a particular skill, then you NEED to spend time on it. Not just the full movement where you repeat bad movements over and over, but drills to master the different pieces. Then work the capacity of the movement. Then you can put it into a workout and see if you really have it mastered or not in a fatigued state. If you are just floating down the river and don't really care what happens with your stuff then ok, do whatever you want to do. But if you want to really get something out of it, then you have to put everything into it! :)
