How do you get ready to take on a task? Is it different based on the duration or type of task? Would you do anything differently if it was a 1RM attempt versus a 20 min AMRAP event? Back in the day, I remember the heavy weight on my wrestling team would want me to slap his face like 4 or 5 times before he went out to wrestle. It got him fired up to basically get in a fight. I would try to do that too but all it would do is get me all bound up. I would feel all the adrenaline and rage but I wouldn't have any flow. I wouldn't be able to react if things got weird or out of the ordinary. For me, I learned I had to keep control of my rage or over passionate emotions. I see the same thing now in almost every situation. If I get all fired up or I let my emotions totally take over, then I am a slave to them. I might be really good for a rep or an initial attack but after that, I can't read the situation very well. I can't respond to all the variables because I have been clouded by rage. I can't quickly and calmly maneuver around the situation to put my self in a better place or move closer to the goal. Emotions are obviously an important part of being human. And there are some amazing ones. But they can cloud our mind, our judgement and our actions. Use your emotions when you are living, but control your emotions when you are responding or reacting. The more you can keep them at bay, the better your judgements and actions will be:)
