No one likes to be uncomfortable. It can be painful, or tiring, or exhausting, or embarrassing, or frustrating, or a multitude of other not cool things. And because of this, our default will be to avoid it. So much that it becomes a huge fear for us. Many will be absolutely terrified to have to deal with whatever the discomfort is. But what we have a tendency to forget is that the majority of the time, on the other side of discomfort is growth, success, learning, joy, happiness, fulfillment, etc. So if you stand back, you can see that to get any of these desirable things you will have to go through the "wall" of discomfort. The simple math problem is if you can take more discomfort then you will get more of the good stuff on the other side. But you have to get there. So how much can you take? And how can you get better at taking the discomfort? Right here in the gym is how. Every day you get a chance to test yourself. To see if you can take just a single rep more discomfort than before. If you are able to do this consistently, you will increase that tolerance to discomfort. Here's the thing, everyone feels the discomfort and pain. It's not like Matt Fraser doesn't feel the burning of an event. It's just that he is able to deal with and not be stopped by the feeling of the pain. He can push through longer than the rest. That's why he ends up crushing the field. Today you get to test yourself again. Are you afraid? Are you scared to feel the discomfort? I can promise you that it will be uncomfortable, but it won't kill you. Don't be afraid. GO hard. See how much you can take. Even if its one rep more or getting to the bar one second faster, you are improving your ability to deal with the discomfort. You are well on your way to leaving the others in the dust and getting more benefits than you could have before!! :)
