One of the greatest ideas of "true" fitness, and literally the one thing that really hooked me into moving away from my other ways of working out, was the fact of having a broad-based fitness.  What this means is that you aren't a MASTER of any one thing, but you are able to do decent in a  majority of sports or activities.  And if you had to do something you have never done before, you would be able to hop right in and do well.  You would have the ability to adapt quickly to the situation and then make something happen.  For some people, they have a great mindset and are excited when something new is thrown in their face.  These folks usually are pretty decent athletes to begin with so they get to experience the "rush" of something new.  If you aren't the mega-athletic type then its usually more fear than a rush.  But have confidence that what you do here each and every day is MAKING you more and more athletic.  Start changing your mindset and know that you'll be ok!  For others, they only want to stay in the realm of things they are good at because they don't want to feel "dumb".  As a crossfitter, we need to open up our world as wide as possible.  Now, I'm not talking about the CrossFit athlete.  They are training ONLY to do CrossFit competitions.  This has NOTHING to do with life fitness.  Yes, these people are very fit, but their goal is to compete.  Your goal should be to be the best YOU that you can be.  You should be fired up about EVERY test I give you each and every day.  You should be excited to try new things, and this includes competitions.  You should use all this stuff you get from our Constantly Varied Functional Movements Done at High Intensity and let it bleed into your real life.  Let life TRY to give you something that would scare most people.  Just smile at it and do what you do each and everyday!!!    :)
