Integrity is something that seems to have fizzled in many people. Integrity basically is the act of doing the right thing when no one is looking. It's EASY to do the right thing when you are being watched. You know you have to hold up some sort of appearance that you are this or that type of person. But when no one is watching, it's easy to lower those expectations of yourself. In the Fire Dept, we would talk about this all the time. The public would open their homes and lives for us to get into to help them out. It was expected that we would see their money, or secrets, or whatever and leave it be and protect it and them. There is honor in this. Sure, some shitheads would break that code but mostly it was rock solid. In life, it's easy again to show integrity. I have seen people help older folks cross the street, help someone up that fell down, or others that have helped someone when they are in a financial hardship. Again, these are very awesome things because it's just the right thing to do. In sports, the same battle with integrity exists. Athletes will get on the floor and compete to see who is the best. And for some, they will stop at NOTHING to win. They will take supplements that they KNOW will make them better than they could ever be. This has nothing to do with if they are still working hard or not. It has to do with the honor of being a warrior and doing YOUR BEST and just doing what is right. I just saw that a Masters Athlete was popped for PED. He was a longstanding Champ and then takes 2nd in his 5th year. Then he posts on Instagram that he was unaware of any of the stuff he was taking was illegal and that the traces found were so small. Well, I'm sorry but he KNEW exactly what he was doing and did it when NO ONE was looking hoping to be better. There wouldn't need to be any excuses if he would have just done what was right in the beginning. He let the need to be a "somebody" take over and he did the thing that showed NO integrity. There is ZERO honor is what was done or the excuses that were given after. We all make mistakes. Just own up to it if you do. It will always look way better than the excuses. We all have made bad choices but the point is to limit them as much as possible. An easy guide is to always think your kids are watching you because guess what....they are. Do good! :)
