The home gym. It sounds like such a great idea! You can workout at ANY time. It will take away all the excuses you have to not get your workout in for the day. The convenience makes it perfect! I grew up with my dad using his home gym all the time. I remember him pulling out the bench and the incline sit-up board he made, the barbells for curls and presses and all the weights he had. Of course, he would work out at the gym as well, but his home gym would get used all the time. But what I have seen is that it takes a very special person to be able to work out on their own like that. When you are working out at home, whether we like it or not, priority goes to regular life rather than your fitness. The laundry, the cooking, the kids, or just to take a longer rest than you normally would if you were at the gym. I can't tell you how many times I've heard at the gym people saying, "wow if I had to do that workout by myself I would have quit so early!" When you are at the gym you know you are there for a job, to work out. And you have other things that keep you going. There are others working out too, and maybe you have your buddy to workout with. But the thing that actually makes your hour the best for you, is the coach. The coach is the one that will keep you fired up or at least motivated since they are sitting there watching you, and you know they are! They will give you cues to make sure you are moving correctly and safely so that you maximize the results of your workout. And they will do everything they can to take out the problem of injury or other issues by modifying your movements so that you can still get it in without doing any damage to you. The thing is that you could still be motivated to workout on your own but you are still missing that keep component of correct movement. Training is all about repetition. Every rep you do that is incorrect is moving you closer to injury. If you do more workouts of bad movement, then you just get better at doing bad movement. The coach is there to make sure you get as many good reps, correct reps, and safe reps which will bring you closer to max efficiency and benefits! I'm not downplaying the home gym. But I am UP-PLAYING the importance of the coach. Use them to get the most from each session you are in the gym! It's what they are there for and what they LOVE to do!:)
