When I was a captain in the Fire Service and was the physical training coordinator for the county, I would be amazed at how many of firefighters thought they would be ready to respond to the gnarliest of incidents but never really physically trained for that worse possible day. They just figured that when the time came, they would be able to do what they need to be able to do. But it doesn't work like that. In fact it will get you in to trouble because you will think you are going to be able to do something, and then when you really need to be able to respond or react, you don't have the skills, the ability, the strength, or the endurance to do what you need to be able to do. It's strange too because its a very easy thing to fix. Now outside of the fire service, we have regular people that workout. They act the same way as these firefighters above. They figure they can lose weight when they want, or that they will be healthy for their kids, or that, heaven forbid, they need to fight for their spouse or their kids. They will say things like, "at least I'm doing something", or "it's better than nothing". So if this is what they say about what they are doing, then how will they be ready? Sure working out is to look good and feel good. But it also has to be to BE good. You have to have a body and a machine that can DO what you need it to do when it NEEDS to do it! You don't get to choose WHEN you will need to be ready to perform, so you need to be in a perpetual state of readiness at all times. We have that here for you. We got you covered if you do it!
