I used to pride myself on my ability to multi-task. On the surface it sounded like I was able to handle a ton of stuff all at one time. And if it was true that I could actually tend to 3 or 4 important things all at one time, then I would be amazing!! But this really isn't the case. I might be able to be "involved" with a few things at once but I'm not really getting that much done. For example, if you are a high school or college kid and you are trying to get your project done, but at the same time you are text messaging back and forth about things that are going on in your world, you really aren't getting your project done. And even if you are getting through it, it takes WAY longer than it needs to. Now for me, I would get caught doing emails, programming, texting, instagraming, and maybe something else in there too. I would be all stoked because I would be "so busy" doing stuff! But I wasn't really not doing a whole lot of anything. It was just stuff. And now studies show that it takes time for you to switch gears from one thing to the next, even if its simple tasks. You have to mentally shut down to move to the next. I know with me I would get going and switch and then get lost in stuff that wasn't top priority. I get stuck in the social media trap, lost down some hole. And just wasting time instead of doing the things I need to do. So I've been practicing a more single modality attack lately. I know all the things i need to get done, and as much as I wanted to do one of the other things, I'll do EVERYTHING I can to keep myself on the one thing until I'm done with it, or I can't do anything else with it , then I'd switch. I have found this to be way more productive. I am getting more accomplished instead of just milling around in a bunch of different things. Give it a try!!! :)
