When you started CrossFit, were you pissed that you weren't good at it right away? We all know those people that seem to be good at everything they do. They have never done this or that and then try it once and they crush it. Many times those that are good on the initial attempt get super frustrated when they hit a speed bump and to work at it. They may even give up before they really get it or get good at it. A very strange thing about that is that many times those that are aren't good at something when they start, or when they have to work for every single improvement become much better in the long run. They understand the struggle and they aren't jaded from having the Midas touch in the beginning. Those that are good are used to being good. They may have the gift of skills but they lack the ability to have to push through adversity. This is a skill. It's being able to be comfortable when things get bad, or when there is a massive struggle. If you look at the practice of Zen, its said that the worst students are the best students because of this same reason. They may not be able to have long stints of meditation and calming the mind to stillness right away. But they appreciate all the small steps along the way that they must battle with, and then master. From this work done in the early staged of their training, they will have solidified an amazing foundation and learned to love the fundamentals from having many little successes along the way. They enjoy the journey. They enjoy the act of learning and the process and in turn, they become much better than those that start of steps ahead of the field. So if you ever get frustrated that someone is able to something that you can't do yet, don't worry about it. Let them have their early success. Master the parts you are able to do now and then you WILL get yours later! :)
