Back when Craig and i worked fire together, i can remember watching him putting dishes away in the dishwasher at the station and his shoulders would be all rounded and his back hunched.  Even after many times of telling him to keep his shoulders back, he just would forget so fast and would go right back to rounding.  This happens to the vast majority of us.  We get lazy and then the muscles that are supposed to hold us up just get tired to fast because they arent trained to work any more.  Posture is one of those things that we NEED to think about almost every moment of the day.  Keeping our shoulders back and down, our stomach /core activated (as if i was going to walk by and smack you in the gut), and slight tension in your butt.  This position will allow your spine to always be protected and ready to move, lift, or react.  When we are out of position, we increase our chances for injury.  Its easy to think about setting up right when we step up to a heavy weight but we let everything go the other 23 hours of the day.  We MUST think about it all the time.  It is our protection.  So many people hurt there backs not lifting, but picking up a pencil.  So back to Craig....i actually tied his shoulders back with webbing to remind him.  I wasnt doing it to be demeaning to him, and he was cool with it because he realized how important it was.  So if i give you the Dad call of "stand up straight and put your shoulders back" please know that its because we want the best for you.  A good, strong, safe posture all day every day:) FEEL THE BURN!!!
