While looking at the Crossfit Journal, which has a ton of good information about fitness and other Crossfit topics, I came across a link to a video about a local big name trainer, John Hacklman.  "Hack" is the coach for MMA star Chuck Liddell.  The video talked bout how he found Crossfit and how he has integrated it into the training at his gym, "The Pit".  I thought is was a cool video showing how he has brought Crossfit ideals of Functionality to fight training.  He uses high intensity in his workouts of body movements, striking/kicking techniques, and then grappling/wrestling.  A local crossfit affiliate owner commented on the video and tried to point out that Hack doesn't do anything for strength because he doesn't have any barbells in his gym.  This owner, actually bickered back and forth about it with other commenters about it.  I was appalled.  First, John is a world known trainer who has brought some of the best fighters to MMA and a world champ in Chuck Liddell.  I personally know they do use weights for strength training, but they use other things as well.  They will use heavy D-Balls, wheel barrows and their own partners.  Strength training isn't all about a barbell, its about moving heavy objects quickly over long distances.  Second, if this particular trainer feels that they have such a full understanding of Crossfit, they would recognize that all you can use ANY heavy objects because the movements we do are to increase our functional movement.  And lastly, i dont think it adds to the Crossfit community to start critiquing someones training methods when they haven't done anything out of the ordinary with their training methods yet.  We here at the INFERNO understand the WHOLE view of Crossfit training as well as the specialty angles like Kids, Football, Endurance, and Strength Biases.  Anyways, you are always welcome to our gym John and I say strong work and a job well done with your clients!!!
